A winter weather reminder to take extreme caution to not allow your horse(s) access to ice, either on ponds or large puddles behind the barn. Unfortunately we were called out to two horses that had fallen on ice during a recent freeze up. Tragically one horse suffered severe muscle injury having done the “splits” and had to be euthanized. Ice is especially dangerous when covered with a light layer of snow, as the horse will be unaware of having walked onto an icy surface until it is too late.
